Lyrics
It’s been a long time since my mother passed away,
But my memories remain so warm and clear,
Oh how I wish she was still here.
Memories of the times I would visit her at home,
To try and break the hours she would be there on her own.
I would use my key and walk on in,
Before closing the door I would see her smile and cast a grin.
She’d greet me with the words I’d grown so use to hear,
Words I now hold so close, and very dear.
It’s always good to see you Son,
Will you have time to sit and chat?
A few words before you have to turn and run,
If you could, I would sure like that!
It was back in 74 when my Father walked out the door.
She would sit at home facing her future, on her own.
Despite after all so many years of being alone,
I would still see her sitting there shedding a tear.
She was much younger then,
Too young to face life on her own.
She asked herself can this be true?
Even knowing she’d be so alone
She knew she’d make it through.
She’d be waiting all day for me to walk through the door,
One hour to me, to her would feel so much more.
To have the chance to talk,
Would be what she’d been waiting for.
I would start to listen, but her words soon became a blur,
Thinking to be at my home is a place I’d much prefer!
The years for me are now also moving on,
I find myself sitting all alone.
I wait for my son to call not at my house,
And only occasionally on the phone.
I have plenty of time to sit and reminisce,
About the mother I sure do miss.
How I long for her warm embrace,
To be standing at her door,
To see that grin appear upon her face,
And hear those words she would say to me once more.
It’s always good to see you Son.
Will you have time to sit and chat?
A few words before you have to turn and run,
If you could, I would sure like that!
I now totally understand,
As I receive it from my son first hand.
The loneliness she must have felt,
Is the same loneliness I have now been dealt.
All that loneliness she must have felt,
Is the same loneliness I have now myself been dealt.
